• A scanner passes a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) by the media being scanned.
• The CCD measures small areas (dots) as it passes the media being scanned.
• Each scanned dot becomes a digital pixel.
• The more dots per inch it reads, the higher the resolution.
• The higher the resolution the more detail recorded and the larger the digital image.
• Higher resolution digital images show greater detail (up to a point) and/or can be printed in larger sizes.
