96/97 Rosati/Nothnagle Polarcats Race #5
Pineway Ponds Park, Spencerport, February 16, 1997
What is it about Spencerport? There always seem to be problems at Spencerport races.
For Polarcats races it's usually the weather. Even when we get fair weather for
the other events in the series we seem to be cursed with low temperatures and high
winds or worse when we show up at Pineway Ponds park. That's why we rent a cabin for
the pre and post race activities. This year the weather wasn't too bad: about 20
degrees with a light wind. Not too bad when you have a nice warm cabin to which you
can retreat...except that the guy from Spencerport Recreation never showed up to
unlock the place!
We ran race registration from out of Bill's minivan and things went surprizingly well,
all things considered. At least once we got the race under way; the starter pistol
refused to fire when Bill pulled the trigger. "BANG!" he shouted. And so the race began.
Things went especially well for Len Fetterly who won the race handily. No one in the pack following him ever
made any kind of challenge for the lead. What a bunch of wimps!
