The first part of our Italian trip consisted of a week spent hiking the Cinque Terra region. The whole area is part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the coastal path which had been on our original itinerary had been washed out by storms earlier in the year, so we ended up with a much more strenuous route up and down the crags and hills slightly farther inland. Tough going but spectacularly beautiful.
