Filters, etc.

Filters

I always carry a selection of filters. Typically, these include an 81b warming filter, a polarizer and/or warming polarizer and one or two split neutral-density filters (ND grads). (I use Hi-Tech ND grads in a Cokin holder.) Most of my filters are in the 77mm thread size: they will attach directly to my 17-35 and 80-200 zooms and to my other lenses with a step-up ring. I don't bother with the warming filter when shooting digital, but the polarizer is still as useful as ever and, unlike some digital photographers, I still prefer to use the split ND filter while shooting rather than fix shots in Photoshop afterwards.

I also usually carry a short extension tube (upper left in the photo) when I don't have the macro lens with me.
